The job itself
This position is for 6 hours per week during term time and 12 hours per week during school holidays, although family can be flexible according to their needs and the needs of their Direct Payment Worker.
‘I am a 10 year old boy who is looking for a support worker to build a relationship with me and help me to access activities in the community. I like my support worker to help me to come up with new ideas for activities, who understands Autism. It helps me to have preplanning and lots of adult praise and attention.
I enjoy activities such as swimming, trampolining, dancing, basketball, drama, helping with jobs, going to the park and day trips out to different places such as Yorkshire Wildlife Park. I really enjoy Science Fiction, especially Dr. Who, and I also love to notice fast cars when out and about – and enjoy sharing my knowledge about these.
I am funny and like to tell jokes to make people laugh with my sense of humour. I am kind and caring towards others, and especially care about my family. I love to learn things and also really enjoying sharing what I know with others.
I have an amazing vocabulary and can let people know what I am thinking and feeling most of the time, but sometimes I can need support with managing my emotions and behaviour. This happens especially when I am feeling unprepared and out of routine. I also don’t like being told no, and it helps to have a creative response to boundaries and to be included in as many decisions as possible so that my choice and feelings are heard to help when I struggle with adult direction and to help me to feel safe and secure in our relationship.’
