Highways Structures Engineer
Contract: Cheshire East Highways

We are seeking a skilled Highways Structures Engineer to support the design and delivery of structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes across Cheshire East. The successful candidate will use their expertise in design standards including DMRB, MCHW and Eurocodes to develop effective, high-quality engineering solutions to highway structure challenges.
Working closely with the Structures Manager and providing guidance to junior team members, this role requires a strong background in highway structures and a proven track record of successfully delivering projects.
Reporting to the Structures Manager, the Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing allocated schemes from development through to delivery. The role also involves close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, making strong communication and relationship-building skills essential.
The Role
Key Responsibilities:
1. The role will primarily support the delivery of Cheshire East’s annual capital works portfolio,including planning, design, and implementation of structures improvement schemes.
2. Prepare, design, and plan highway structures works and services.
3. Provide clear and effective project leadership
4. Provide assistance in the management and monitoring of works programmes or services.
5. Plan and deliver work safely in accordance with CDM and Health and Safety policy.
About You
6. Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent high-level qualification, or significant experience in Structures.
7. Membership of or working towards membership of a relevant Professional Institution (ICE, IStructE, IHE).
8. Hold a valid driving licence with experience behind the wheel.
9. The candidate will be able to demonstrate competence of the elements within the role
requirements section gained through working experience on highway structures schemes.
10. The candidate shall have recent experience of leading and mentoring junior engineers in the delivery of highway structures projects.
