Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
As a Launch Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful industrialisation and launch of new vehicle programs or major engineering changes. You’ll be responsible for coordinating build activities, resolving launch-related issues, and driving cross-functional alignment across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams. This role demands hands-on problem solving, technical acumen, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
Area of Responsibility
Build Phase Execution:
1. Support all prototype and production build phases (VP, TT, PP, Job 1), ensuring parts, processes, and tooling are in place.
2. Monitor build quality, identify issues, and drive timely resolution.
Issue Management & Problem Solving:
3. Lead root cause analysis and containment of launch-related issues.
4. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to implement permanent corrective actions.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
5. Interface with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics, and Supplier Quality to ensure launch readiness.
6. Facilitate daily launch meetings and escalate critical issues to leadership.
Supplier & Plant Support:
7. Work with suppliers and manufacturing plants to ensure timely delivery of parts and readiness of tooling and processes.
8. Track supplier performance and support resolution of part shortages or quality concerns.
Documentation & Reporting:
9. Maintain accurate records of build issues, deviations, and resolutions.
10. Provide regular updates to program teams and senior stakeholders on launch status and risks.
Continuous Improvement:
11. Capture lessons learned and contribute to improving launch processes and standards.
12. Support lean initiatives and digital tools to enhance launch visibility and efficiency.
Knowledge / Experience
·Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related discipline.
·Strong experience in automotive or complex manufacturing environments, with direct involvement in product launch.
·Strong understanding of product development cycles, build phases, and manufacturing processes.
·Proficiency in issue tracking systems, build documentation, and root cause analysis tools.
·Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Attributes
·Experience with electric vehicle or advanced propulsion system launches.
·Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and launch control systems.
·Knowledge of plant operations, supplier development, and logistics.
·Ability to work independently and drive results in ambiguous or evolving environments.
