An exciting opportunity has arisen at Herne Bay Urgent Treatment Centre, for an experienced Emergency Practitioner to join our dynamic and supportive team. This is a fantastic chance to work in a fast paced, patient focused environment where no two days are the same.


Main duties of the job

You will practice autonomously in a unscheduled care setting, assessing and managing a wide range of minor injuries and illnesses for patients who walk through our doors. Job responsibilities

ClinicalRole

Makeprofessionally autonomous decisions for which the practitioner is accountable.

Provide theopportunity of direct access to patients who present at any time between 8am-8pm.

Make use ofskills in history taking, physical examination, prescribing, problem solvingand clinical decision making to establish a diagnosis and management plan.

Instigatenecessary diagnostic tests and investigations with informed consent from thepatient and interpret findings/reports. Eg x-ray.

Provide safe,evidence based, cost effective, individualised patient care.

Offer aholistic service to patients and their families developing, where appropriate,an on-going plan of care/support, with an emphasis on self-care.

Promote healthand well-being through the use of health promotion, health education andtherapeutic communication skills.

Refer patientsdirectly to other services/agencies as appropriate.

Contribute tothe unit achieving high standards of patient care and service delivery.

Teachingand Mentoring Role:

Promote a safeand organised learning environment for patients and healthcare professionals.

Contribute tothe implementation of the teaching for existing staff and students.

Research Role:

Promote andprovide evidenced based practiced.

Contribute toaudit and research on the unit.

Leadership Role:

Role modellingbest practice to team members

ProfessionalRole:

Monitor theeffectiveness of your own clinical practice through quality assurancestrategies such as the use of audit and peer review.

Maintainprofessional registration.

Participate incontinuing professional development opportunities to ensure that up to dateevidence based practice knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role ismaintained.

Work within theNMC Code of Professional Conduct or the HPCP Code of Professional Conduct.

Record accurateconsultation data in patients records in accordance with the most up to dateNMC guidance and other pertinent standards.

Keep up to datewith relevant health related policy and work with the practice team to considerimpact and strategies for implementation.

Workcollaboratively with colleagues and with members of the multi professionalteam. Both within our organisation and external stakeholders.


Person Specification


Communication & People Skills

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to evidence sound writing, verbal and listening skills.
* Personal understanding and use of English.
* Enthusiastic and committed
* Able to work as part of the inter-professional team.
* Experience using medical computer systems, EMIS.


Qualifications

* Registered Paramedic Practitioner or Registered Nurse.
* Physical Examination and Assessment qualification
* Degree in Healthcare related subject.
* Willingness to complete further education.
* Level 6 or 7 Minor Injury and Minor Health modules or equivalent.
* Non-Medical Prescriber
* Current ILS and PILS qualifications
* Current IRMER training
* Red dot training/ xray interpretation module.


Knowledge

* Ability to work autonomously.
* Knowledge of unscheduled care practice.
* Excellent Clinical Skills.


Experience

* 5 years post registration experience with at least one year in A&E, UTC, primary care or alternative unscheduled care context.
* Experience working to protocols, guidelines and patient group directives such as PGD's.
* Experience of working with a range of age groups including children.


Organisational Skills

* Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
* Able to work under pressure.
* Flexibility and ability to work in a changing and evolving environment.
