Youth Worker
Location: Lambeth Town Hall, 1 Brixton Hill, Brixton, London, SW2 1RW
Contract: 3 month contract with potential extension (35 hours per week)
Pay Rate: £34.72 LTD per hour (paid weekly via umbrella company)
Start Date: 29th December
About the Role:
Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people? The London Borough of Lambeth is looking for a Youth Engagement Coordinator to lead and manage a team of dedicated youth outreach workers. You will oversee interventions that support children and young people at risk of offending, family breakdown, homelessness, and exploitation.
This role involves working closely with young people in the community, schools, and Police Custody Suites, ensuring they receive the right support, guidance, and access to positive opportunities. You’ll be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating programmes while mentoring and supervising your team to achieve impactful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and supervise Prevention Officers / Sessional Youth Engagement Workers, including workload allocation, performance, and professional development.
Deliver innovative youth engagement initiatives, detached outreach, and group work programmes.
Conduct screenings and diversion interventions for children in custody, providing 3–5 session support and linking them to community activities.
Build strong partnerships with schools, social care, police, probation, health services, and voluntary organisations.
Ensure high-quality record keeping using systems such as Mosaic and Core+.
Promote strength-based and inclusive approaches, empowering young people and families to achieve positive outcomes.
Represent the Youth Justice Service in professional meetings and contribute to service development.
Essential skills and experience:
Proven experience in youth work, particularly in outreach or detached settings.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and motivate young people.
Leadership experience managing staff and delivering effective supervision.
Understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and relevant legislation.
Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and across various locations in the borough.
Enhanced DBS clearance required.
Knowledge of Mosaic/Core+ is desirable.
