The Haematology/Oncology Inpatient Unit is an 18 bedded unit for the care of patients with Haematology and Oncology malignancies. We administer high intensity chemotherapy, and support patients with the side effects of their illness and the treatments involved.
We provide a 24 hour triage service for our patients at home who may need urgent medical care. It is an extremely busy and exciting place to work, and it can be emotional, but there is a chance to make a real difference in patients and their relatives lives.
As a Band 6 you will co-ordinate the care of our patients, working closely with Consultants, Therapists, Palliative Care and the wider MDT. You will answer triage line calls and ensure the patient is assessed and treated swiftly and appropriately.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated person who will be able to demonstrate high standards of clinical practice and work well within our established team. Main duties of the job
1. Maintain a high standard of patient focused care, in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
2. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
3. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
4. Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
5. Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
6. Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
7. Undertake duties on different wards/departments, as and when required by service demands.
8. Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
