Who are we? First Marine Solutions (FMS) are a service provider to the local and international renewables and oil & gas sectors specialising in the engineering, design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of mooring systems for floating platforms. Headquartered in Aberdeen, with a satellite office in Glasgow, FMS also specialise in the planning and undertaking of marine activities related to floating platforms such as towage, vessel loadouts, marine assurance, and assisting with location planning and consent. The Role? We are seeking a Marine Consultant to join the Marine Team and contribute to the continued growth of the company through effective client management, project planning, and project execution offshore, on a full time, permanent basis. Primarily shore-based in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, the Marine Consultant will undertake Client interaction, project assessment and tendering, project planning and risk analysis, as well as undertaking project close out. Offshore attendance will be required aboard both vessels and marine platforms as Client Representative, Tow Master, and Deck/Marine Supervisor. ​ The Key Responsibilities? This list does not represent an exhaustive list but indicates the main responsibilities the post holder will be required to undertake: Liaise with clients on a daily basis, providing updates on project status, deliverables, and project risk considerations. Prepare quotations, cost estimates, and technical inputs for tenders and business development activities. Lead project teams to ensure delivery of safe, technically robust project documentation in line with client requirements. Develop operational procedures, method statements, risk assessments, and other marine documents in accordance with industry standards, vessel specifications, and contract needs. Conduct operational planning, hazard identification, and risk analysis. Attend client / operational meetings both online and in person as the needs of the business dictate. Review and evaluate offshore project reports, ensuring lessons learned are captured and actioned. Maintain strong client interfaces and build long term professional relationships. Support continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and cross functional collaboration within FMS. Provide technical expertise to improve conversion of proposals to confirmed work. Maintain awareness of operational and commercial risk relating to the marine function. Undertake technical work, contributing to service deliver, in accordance with client and company expectations in a timely, accurate, safe and cost efficient manner. Attend offshore operations fulfilling Client Marine Representative, Tow Master, or Deck / Marine Supervisor as required. Brief vessels and offshore teams on operation specific procedures and expectations. Oversee and support marine operations to ensure safe and compliant execution. Carry out marine assurance activities on behalf of clients. Provide clear, accurate reporting during and after offshore operations. Maintain knowledge of policies, standards and procedures for the engineering technical work delivered by the function. Maintain and gain knowledge of FMS business activities and maintain technical competency though ongoing professional development such as training courses, work-shadowing, and self-study. ​ Your Qualifications & Experience? Essential: Minimum of OOW Certificate of Competence. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Offshore Certification(s). Degree in Marine Related Subject and/or minimum 2 years’ experience working onboard offshore vessels as a bridge team member. Preferred: Knowledge of Offshore Mooring Operations, Temporary and Permanent mooring system types and intricacies, and Dynamic Positioning Systems. ​ Your Personal Skills & Qualities? Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including proven report writing ability. Confident liaising and building rapport with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Good planning and organisational skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment and too tight deadlines. Detail focussed and drive to complete tasks to a high standard. Ability to work on own initiative Self motivated, with a strong work ethic. Ability to work internationally and offshore.
