Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Community Safety Officer to join our Environmental Protection Team. This is a pivotal role focused on enhancing community resilience, reducing harm and delivering high-quality community safety services across our districts.

As the Community Safety Officer, you will lead the delivery of community safety initiatives on behalf of the Councils, working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to reduce threat, risk and harm. You will play a key role in public reassurance, addressing emerging challenges and ensuring our services meet the highest standards of performance, legislation and best practice.

You will provide expert advice and guidance on a range of issues, including anti-social behaviour (ASB), serious crime and exploitation such as County Lines and modern slavery, hate crime, safeguarding concerns and public health matters. You will also act as the Council\'s lead on the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA), taking responsibility as the designated RIPA Coordinator.

This is a dynamic, outward-facing role, involving regular travel across the districts, undertaking lone working, visiting high-risk sites and working directly with vulnerable individuals, sometimes in their own homes. Flexibility is essential as occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

About You

With a degree-level education in Environmental Health (or equivalent experience) you will be a knowledgeable and confident professional with significant experience of working in a multi-agency environment within community safety, environmental health or a related field. You will bring strong investigative skills, sound knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to handle sensitive and complex situations with professionalism and empathy. You will be resilient and able to manage conflict calmly and professionally.

With working knowledge of RIPA data protection, FOI and legal frameworks relevant to enforcement activity, you will possess strong problem-solving abilities, using evidence-based approaches to develop effective solutions.
