Dental Nurse Higher Level

As a Higher level dental Nurse working as part of the dental team you will assist in the planning, organisation and delivery of comprehensive dental care to patients, providing an efficient and effective dental service over various sites across the city of Salford, including a secure care unit for young people. This will include assisting with treatments under conscious sedation and general anaesthesia, and taking dental radiographs under prescription from dental officers.
You will ensure the best possible dental nursing care and practice is delivered to all patients, including those with complex medical conditions, physical, sensory or learning disabilities. Patients with severe mental ill health, dementia, end‑of‑life care, ASD and behavioural challenges are also within scope. This list is not exhaustive.
As a Higher Level Dental Nurse, you will ensure that effective communication is always maintained and will provide day‑to‑day supervision to junior team members if required.
You will practice within the scope of a General Dental Council (GDC) registered Dental Nurse and maintain compliance with GDC professional standards.
Main duties of the job
Support dentists, therapists and postgraduates in delivering dental care. Provide assistance to senior team members and elevate department issues as required. Offer advice and guidance to patients, relatives and carers regarding treatment and care plans. Support and reassure adult and paediatric patients, including individuals with special needs or challenging behaviours. Work with patients who have complex medical histories, mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
Use specialist skills and qualifications to organise and deliver oral‑health nurse‑led clinics for core community dental service patients referred by colleagues. Assist clinicians and support patients during conscious sedation. Accompany clinicians on home visits and support clinical assessments for XGA or sedation, providing pre‑ and post‑operative instructions.
Assist with paediatric extractions and adult special care under general anaesthetic at Salford Royal Hospital. Support clinicians providing dental care within a secure unit for young people. Take, process and store digital dental radiographs in line with IRR, IRMER and Health & Safety regulations.

Person Specification
* Registered with the General Dental Council
* National Examining Board for Dental Nurses Certificate or equivalent
* Post qualification in Dental Radiography and/or Dental Conscious Sedation
* In‑depth knowledge of Dental Nursing skills in relation to comprehensive dental care
* Basic IT skills, although the use of clinical systems would be a distinct advantage
* Use of Clinical IT Systems
* NEBDN Post qualification in: Oral Health / Fluoride Varnish Application / Special Care Dental Nursing
* Proven relevant experience of working in a Community Dental Service
