We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Welfare Benefits and Assessments Advisor with experience of working within a similar front facing Welfare Benefits role, excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
Working as the as Senior Welfare Benefits and Assessments Advisor you will work effectively and collaboratively with teams within Income & Assessments to ensure the service is responsive and meets the appropriate needs of its residents, customers, and other users.
As the Senior Welfare Benefits and Assessments Advisor you will be responsible for supporting and supervising a team of front facing assessment advisors who deal with individuals with queries in relation to Benefits & Council Tax, and responding to the needs of vulnerable residents, additionally where necessary making appropriate connections and referrals for additional services and support.
DUTIES
Your duties as a Senior Welfare Benefits and Assessments Advisor will include:
1. Dealing with resident and customer enquiries in relation to Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and Council Tax via phone, email and face to face contact
2. Support the operation of the service and take ownership for processes and procedures using best practice from others where appropriate
3. Lead on the concessionary fares & Local Welfare Provision application processes
4. Dealing with the more complex customer issues and support and mentor Advisors to develop their skills and practice
5. Assisting with the effective monitoring and review mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement in delivery of services
6. Support the administration of Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction claims and re-assessments
7. Make complex autonomous decisions with confidence and professionalism
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
8. Verbal, written communication skills
9. Experience of working within a front facing Welfare Benefits Environment
10. Proficient ICT skills and use of Microsoft packages
11. Good working knowledge of Welfare Benefits
12. Ability to listen, extract and assess important information
13. Ability to make appropriate complex decisions with autonomy and confidence
14. Supervisory experience (desirable)
