Teaching Assistant Opportunities – September 2026 Start

Location: Basingstoke
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Rate of Pay: £14.25 per hour

We are currently seeking to appoint dedicated and professional Teaching Assistants to join two well-established specialist schools in Basingstoke from September 2026.

These provisions cater for pupils with a range of additional needs and provide highly structured, supportive environments in which students are encouraged to achieve both academically and in their personal development.

The vacancies are available across two distinct settings:

* A Special Educational Needs (SEN) school supporting pupils with autism spectrum conditions, complex learning difficulties and communication needs

* A Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) provision supporting pupils who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in education

Both settings are staffed by experienced multidisciplinary teams who work collaboratively to deliver tailored support in line with individual education and care plans.





Role Overview

The successful candidates will play a key role in supporting pupils’ access to education, as well as their social and emotional development. This position requires a proactive, adaptable and compassionate approach, with the ability to respond effectively to a range of needs within the classroom environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

* Providing targeted 1:1 and small group support in accordance with individual learning plans

* Supporting the delivery of differentiated learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff

* Promoting the development of communication, interaction and social skills

* Assisting pupils in managing their emotions and behaviour through positive, consistent strategies

* Supporting the implementation of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques in line with school policies

* Encouraging pupil independence, resilience and engagement in learning

* Contributing to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

* Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider pastoral teams to ensure a consistent approach





Setting-Specific Expectations

* SEN Provision:
The role will involve supporting pupils within a highly structured environment, with a strong emphasis on routine, communication strategies and sensory-aware practice.

* SEMH Provision:
The role will require the ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and reliable adult role model. A calm and resilient approach to behaviour support is essential.





Person Specification

We are looking to hear from individuals who demonstrate:

* A strong commitment to supporting children and young people with additional needs

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* Emotional resilience, patience and a calm, consistent approach

* The ability to work effectively as part of a team

* A proactive and flexible attitude to supporting learning and behaviour

Previous experience working within an SEN or SEMH setting is desirable but not essential. Comprehensive support, guidance and ongoing professional development will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
