Role Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is a large health system. The role supports mental health legislation processes under the supervision of the Mental Health Act Administrator. The post holder will develop knowledge of the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) Act 2003, the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995, and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
GGC-wide; initial base at Gartnavel Royal Hospital. Shift pattern: Monday‑Wednesday 09:00‑17:00, Thursday 09:00‑16:00, Friday 09:00‑16:30.
Key Responsibilities
* Receive, check and verify detention paperwork from ward staff, GPs and other doctors.
* Notify appropriate external agencies (Mental Welfare Commission, Mental Health Tribunal Service, Local Authority) and the patient’s “Named Person” of detention.
* Record detention in the appropriate system, ensuring correct dates for clinician review.
* Alert Tribunal to hearing dates and confirm receipt of paperwork from Tribunal clerk for patients at hearings.
* Inform patients and nearest relatives of their rights.
Qualifications and Training
* Knowledge of mental health legislation equivalent to SVQ Level 3.
* Ability to develop working knowledge through induction and training led by the Health Records Manager or Supervisor.
* Basic Level Certificate of Technical Competence (IHRIM).
* ECDL or equivalent computer competency.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
