Overview
Applications are invited for four LAT posts within the North of Scotland Anaesthetic Training Programme. These posts are 12 months long and are suitable for anaesthetists in training who have completed Stage 1 training in Anaesthesia. They will be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary or Raigmore Hospital, depending on balancing the needs of the successful applicant and the training programme overall.
Programme Details
The North of Scotland Anaesthetic Training Programme is delivered through Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen and Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Both sites offer most major surgical specialties on a single site, with maternity and paediatric services at both and cardiothoracic and neurosurgery at Aberdeen. The associated Aberdeen Medical School has students across both sites, allowing trainees to involve in student teaching and medical education.
Aberdeen and Inverness are well served by air, rail and road and provide access to the Royal Deeside and the Highlands. Both cities are vibrant and offer good quality of life.

Posts will commence on 5 August 2026 and will end on 3 August 2027.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Stage 1 Certificate, or Stage 1 Equivalence Certificate, from the Royal College of Anaesthetists
* Full registration with licence to practise with the GMC (licence must be in place prior to starting)
* Eligibility confirmed against the National Person Specification for Anaesthesia ST4 2026
Compensation and Conditions
As from 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate to keep pay unchanged.
