Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Rigging & Lifting Superintendent to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
To manage, execute and provide assurance over Balfour Beatty and sub-contractor lifting operations in line with Balfour Beatty lifting procedures, SSOW, legislation and NZT project lifting standards. The lifting superintendent role exists to lead safe lifting operations and provide clear information, instruction and guidance for all lifting operations on site. The Lifting Superintendent will take responsibility for lifting operations on their shift. In line with Balfour Beatty NZT Project lifting standards, LOLER and BS7121. The role is split between desk based and site based, exact times will vary based on the demands of the day-to-day activities, although the anticipated split will be 20% desk based and 80% site based.
* Ensure all lifting/rigging supervisors and lifting teams are briefed on the lift plans and signed onto the required documentation
* Ensure BB NZT Lifting procedure is being implemented by all lift teams and sub-contractors at all times
* Ensure all lifting operations have a valid permit to lift
* Manage the rigging supervisors, lift supervisors and crane coordinators on the shift to ensure SSOW and legislation is followed, adhered to and implemented
* Prepare and produce variations to allow lifting operations to re‑commence where the operation has changed. These variations are to be produced in compliance with the ‘Balfour Beatty Project Lifting Standard’
* Manage and implement crane coordination where multiple cranes are working within close proximity of each other
* Be a champion for the Balfour Beatty Golden rules
* Ensure supervisors, coordinators, operators and riggers/slingers undertake their roles and responsibilities as laid out in their letter of appointments
* Efficient in the use of Microsoft programmes word, excel and outlook to produce and complete shift reports, allocation and labour sheets and lift plan variations
* Produce comprehensive handover information for lifting superintendent on the following shift
* Work closely with BB & client HSE advisors, superintendents, supervision and works managers to ensure project requirements are safely and effectively met
* Produce and deliver toolbox talks as required for lifting operations
* Support in H&S investigations and implementation of corrective actions (for lifting operations)
* Undertake competency assessments to ensure all lifting teams are working in compliance with their role, the SSOW, LOLER and industry best practices to ensure competent teams are in operation
* Any other lifting related tasks as required by the lifting manager and senior lifting superintendent
* Appointed Person qualified and certified (CPCS Blue card A61) with practical/theoretical knowledge of project requirements and legislation (mandatory)
* Lift Supervisor qualified and certified (CPCS Blue card A62)
* ECITB NVQ L3 Diploma in Engineering Construction Lifting or Appointed Person Moving Loads
* SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) (can be obtained once in post)
* Understanding of relevant information including LOLER, PUWER, BS7121 and WAHR (mandatory)
* Efficient in the use of Microsoft programmes word, excel and outlook (mandatory)
* Be confident and able to deliver briefings on lifting operations to the lift team
* Be confident and able to deliver coaching and mentoring to lifting team members on site
* Be able to produce written shift reports on the progress of lifting operations
The lifting superintendent is also required to have demonstrable experience in one of the two areas below:
Heavy Lift & Transport experience:
* SPMT movements
* Rigging and operational knowledge of cranes over 500te including a working knowledge of rigging heavy cranes, set up and working with a ballast tray
* Tandem lifting with crawler cranes
Rigging Operations:
* Rigging operations including fleeting/cross hauling
* Jacking and skating
* Working in complex environments to move and transfer mechanical components
