About Iceotope
Iceotope is pioneering a revolution in cooling technology for high-performance computing and AI infrastructure. Our innovative precision liquid cooling systems are redefining thermal management — delivering exceptional energy efficiency, sustainability, and performance. By replacing traditional air cooling with advanced liquid cooling, we’re helping organisations around the world make AI cool — both literally and figuratively.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a skilled and practical Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our development team in Sheffield. You’ll be hands-on in a well-equipped workshop, supporting the design, build, and testing of cutting-edge products and prototypes that shape the future of data centre cooling.
This role will suit someone who loves solving mechanical problems, thrives on variety, and takes pride in precision craftsmanship — the kind of person who, if their strimmer broke, would happily take it apart, fix it, and put it back together better than before.
What You’ll Do
* Manufacture, modify, and assemble prototypes, jigs, rigs, and fixtures to support product development and testing
* Operate and maintain a wide range of workshop machinery — including lathes, milling machines, grinders, saws, drills, and linishing belts
* Carry out manual machining (turning and milling) and CNC machining, including setup, programming, and tool selection
* Fabricate, fit, and finish precision components to engineering drawings and specifications
* Use precision measuring instruments (verniers, micrometers, dial test indicators, comparators, etc.) for inspection and quality assurance
* Work closely with design engineers to interpret CAD drawings and support design-for-manufacture activities
* Perform general machine maintenance and ensure a safe, organised, and efficient workshop environment
* Assist with test rig development and assembly, supporting the wider engineering and testing teams
* Contribute to continuous improvement by developing SOPs, work instructions, and best practices
* Mentor and support colleagues in mechanical assembly, machining, and workshop safety
Who You Are
* Experienced: 5+ years as a Mechanical Technician, Machine Shop Operator, Bench Fitter, or Tool Room Machinist
* Hands-on expert: Skilled in manual machining, tool selection, and fabrication techniques
* Technically confident: Comfortable with both manual and CNC milling/turning operations, basic G-code programming, and precision measurement
* Resourceful problem solver: Able to identify and resolve mechanical challenges independently
* Quality-focused: Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy, safety, and process improvement
* Collaborative: Works effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Adaptable: Open to new technologies, materials, and manufacturing methods
Desirable Skills
* CAD/CAM experience (SolidWorks preferred)
* Experience in material selection and working with various metals and plastics
* Sheet metal work, soldering, brazing, and rapid prototyping
* Basic plumbing and pipework (bending, jointing, assembly)
* PCB or cable assembly experience
* PLC programming skills
Why Join Iceotope?
* Work in a modern, well-equipped workshop within a forward-thinking engineering company
* Take ownership of varied, interesting, and hands-on technical challenges
* Collaborate with passionate professionals developing sustainable, industry-leading technology
* Enjoy a supportive, friendly environment that values craftsmanship, curiosity, and innovation
* Play a key role in driving efficiency, quality, and precision across the full product lifecycle
