Working as a Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS) is a vital role within the justice system, ensuring safety and security. The position is based at Barkingside Magistrates Court and offers a permanent contract with job stability and security.
Salary and Benefits
* Salary: £26,026 per annum
* Base Salary: £23,402 (35 hours/week)

Working Hours and Flexibility
The role involves early and late shifts, covering 35 hours per week with flexible arrangements. The rota is provided 12 weeks in advance, allowing for meaningful time off.
Key Responsibilities
* Escort detainees to and from courtrooms, ensuring security and safety, including supervising and monitoring detainees during court sessions.
* Maintain confidentiality and professionalism, supporting detainees emotionally and physically.
* Respond to incidents, conduct searches, and complete accurate paperwork.
* Collaborate with court staff, law enforcement, and legal professionals for smooth operations.
Candidate Requirements
No prior experience is necessary; commitment to making a difference is key. Training will be provided. Ideally, candidates will have a valid driver’s license, good communication skills, and be reasonably fit. The role requires responsibility, vigilance, and professionalism, with an interest in criminology or psychology being advantageous.
