Role Description This is a full‑time hybrid role for a Principal Designer under the Building Safety Act, based in Bedford with the flexibility to work some days from home. The Principal Designer will lead on compliance, manage design risk, and ensure safety standards during the design phase of construction projects. Responsibilities include facilitating design team meetings, developing construction‑phase plans, collaborating closely with clients and contractors, and conducting safety audits. Additionally, the Principal Designer will provide expert advice to ensure compliance with Building Safety Act regulations and help mitigate design‑related health and safety risks.
Qualifications
Expertise in CDM regulations and Building Safety Act compliance
Proficiency in design risk management, construction‑phase plans, and auditing
Effective communication and teamwork, particularly in multidisciplinary environments
Professional memberships such as IOSH Chartered Membership or Tech IOSH status
Ability to handle diverse projects across Commercial, Retail, and Residential sectors
Relevant experience in safety consultancy and managing health and safety in the construction lifecycle
Experience in working both independently and collaboratively within hybrid work environments
Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or equivalent qualifications is preferred
