Start Date: April 2026 Contract: Full-time Pay: Paid weekly via PAYE (no umbrella fees) Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint a Skilled SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a well‑regarded primary school in Oxton, Wirral known for its nurturing, inclusive ethos and strong pastoral focus. Role Overview As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils who present with a range of emotional and behavioural needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and support team to help children regulate, access learning and build their confidence. Key Responsibilities In the Classroom Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs. Implement behaviour support strategies and de‑escalation techniques. Assist pupils with maintaining focus and engagement in lessons. Adapt classroom tasks to suit individual learning needs. Promote positive relationships, self-esteem, and resilience. Pastoral & SEMH Support Use trauma‑informed approaches to build trust and emotional safety. Support pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and transition routines. Monitor, record and report changes in behaviour or emotional wellbeing. Liaise with external agencies when appropriate (e.g. counsellors, mentors). Wider School Responsibilities Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the school SEN team. Participate in team meetings, behaviour briefings and safeguarding updates. Who We’re Looking For You don’t need formal TA qualifications, but we welcome applicants with: Experience in SEMH, SEN, youth work, childcare, coaching or mentoring. Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and emotional regulation strategies. Patience, resilience, empathy and a calm, nurturing attitude. A willingness to learn, adapt and support complex needs.
