Overview
Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to join the Secure CAMHS team at Adel Beck Secure Children's Home. You will be working within an experienced multidisciplinary team to assess risk and mental health needs, develop holistic care plans, and provide 1:1 interventions and potential therapeutic groups. The role includes liaison with partner agencies, participation in risk reviews, and contributing to service development within a secure CAMHS setting.
Main duties of the job
* Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs.
* Work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, providing consultation for other agencies/professionals.
* Participate in CAMHS first on-call rota and support safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
* Offer screening assessments for newly arrived young people and attend home meetings to review risk to self or others.
* Provide person-centred assessment of mental health needs and risk, including screening for neurodevelopmental needs; develop plans of care and intervention with senior clinical supervision.
* Develop, run or contribute to therapeutic groups and 1:1 interventions as appropriate to identified needs.
* Collaborate across services to ensure timely transition and coordinated mental health services for children and young people; engage universal services and targeted groups as required.
* Utilise information technology systems (e.g., Rio and System One) for high-quality, confidential data collection; participate in clinical audits and governance processes.
* Promote user/carer involvement in care planning and delivery; work in a child, young person and family centred, continuous-improvement culture.
Working patterns and eligibility
* Secure CAMHS operates Monday–Friday, 8am–8pm (12-hour periods). Weekend crisis service provided by clinicians within the secure estate (telephone, video or face-to-face as clinically indicated).
* Full-time, flexible working arrangements.
Requirements and qualifications
* Essential experience: Substantial post-qualification experience; experience with children, young people and their carers in mental health or other complex care settings; multidisciplinary teamwork; inter-agency liaison; experience in patient provision; liaison across CAMHS levels; knowledge of safeguarding and relevant legislation; clinical/therapeutic knowledge of mental health and behavioral problems; ability to implement evidence-based practice; understanding of research methodology and audit; ability to work with other disciplines and partner organisations.
* Desirable experience: Experience in community settings; prior CAMHS experience.
* Training: Training and experience related to specialist CAMHS.
* Skills: Good verbal and written communication; negotiation, problem-solving; customer service orientation; report writing; strong teamwork and ability to work across disciplines and manage inter-disciplinary tensions.
* Qualifications: Relevant professional qualification (e.g., nursing, psychology, psychotherapist, family therapist, or other allied health professional); ongoing professional development and supervision/mentorship; membership of professional bodies. Desirable: post-registration or post-graduate qualifications in mental health (e.g., CBT, family therapy, counselling).
* Physical/Personal: Ability to undertake the duties; satisfactory sickness record; ability to work autonomously and as part of a team; willingness to multi-agency approach; ability to work under pressure; driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered for disability).
