Expenses covered. £50,000-£60,000 plus benefits Build AI that's live, trusted, and already delivering value We're hiring a Lead BI Developer to join a market-leading organisation delivering production-grade Generative AI and analytics platforms for UK local government. This is not experimental AI. This is not proof-of-concept work that never reaches users. With 20 UK councils live, our platform is already embedded in day-to-day decision-making, supporting smarter services, better resource allocation, and measurable public sector outcomes. You'll sit at the intersection of business intelligence, modern Azure data platforms, and applied AI, shaping how insight is delivered at scale. The role As Lead BI Developer, you'll design, build, and optimise the BI and data layer that underpins both our AI-enabled products and our client analytics delivery. You'll work across product development and live client environments, translating complex, high-volume datasets into clear, explainable, and actionable insight. Alongside Power BI and Azure data services, you'll have exposure to emerging AI-driven analytics approaches, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and vector-based data modelling, supporting intelligent and auditable reporting. This is a hands-on senior role with real influence over architecture, standards, and delivery quality. What you'll be responsible for Designing and delivering end-to-end BI solutions using Power BI and Azure data services. Building and maintaining ETL pipelines, data models, and analytics frameworks. Partnering with engineering, delivery, and client teams to design scalable, secure BI architectures. Ensuring data quality, accuracy, and governance compliance across internal and client datasets. Creating dashboards and reports that translate data into clear decisions, not noise. Supporting AI transformation initiatives through analysis, telemetry, and performance tracking. Contributing to pre-sales demos, technical proposals, and delivery estimates. Evaluating emerging BI and AI tooling to continuously improve capability and outcomes. What we're looking for 5 years' experience in business intelligence or data analytics development. Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, Azure Synapse, and SQL-based data solutions. Proven ETL experience using Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or Logic Apps. Solid grounding in data modelling, visualisation best practice, and governance. Practical experience using Python or R for data manipulation and analytics. Exposure to AI-enabled BI environments such as Azure Fabric, Cognitive Services, or OpenAI integrations. The ability to communicate complex data insight clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Experience in public sector, higher education, or consulting environments is beneficial, but not essential.
