Anderson Knight are delighted to be partnering our client, a Leading multi-utility connections company working for many of the UK’s leading housebuilders, construction firms and independent consulting companies in Scotland, North Wales and the North of England. Established in 2002 who are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Business Development Manager.
The Business Development Manager will drive growth across the multi-utility sector, focusing on electricity, gas, water, fibre, EV infrastructure, and other infrastructure services. The role involves identifying new opportunities, building strategic client relationships, and securing profitable contracts that align with the company’s growth strategy. The BDM will work closely with internal technical, design, and delivery teams to present fully integrated multi-utility solutions to clients.
Key Responsibilities
• Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the multi-utility and infrastructure market (ICP, IDNO/IGT, Water/Sewerage, Fibre, Telecoms).
• Achieve revenue and margin targets in line with annual business objectives.
• Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline using CRM tools.
• Lead the bid process: proposal writing, tender submissions, presentations, and commercial negotiations.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with developers, contractors, consultants, IDNOs/IGTs, and local authorities.
• Provide expert advice on multi-utility delivery options, regulatory frameworks, and connection processes.
• Act as the main point of contact for key accounts, ensuring an outstanding customer experience.
• Conduct market analysis to identify trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic growth initiatives, pricing strategies, and market positioning.
• Represent the business at industry events, conferences, and networking forums.
• Work alongside engineering and design teams to develop viable connection solutions.
• Understand technical drawings, multi-utility designs, connection regulations, and industry standards.
• Coordinate with project delivery teams to ensure client requirements and commercial commitments are met.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Proven experience in Business Development or Commercial roles within the multi-utility, energy, or infrastructure sector.
• Strong knowledge of electricity, gas, water, fibre, and/or EV connection processes.
• Established industry network with developers, ICPs, IDNOs, DNOs, IGTs, and key stakeholders.
• Demonstrable success in winning and managing multi-million-pound contracts.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to understand technical utility drawings and designs (not necessarily as a designer).
• Proficient with CRM and MS Office tools.
Desirable Qualifications
• Experience working with/for an Independent Connection Provider (ICP) or utility contractor.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations (GIRS, NERS, WIRS, OFGEM/Ofwat frameworks).
• Degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., IET, IGEM).
