Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Orthopaedics at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Contract and hours
* Up to 37.5 hours per week
* 9-month secondment/Fixed Term Contract with potential to be extended to one year
* This post could be offered as Band 6 post for the right candidate
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist assessment and treatment of patients admitted with complex elective and traumatic orthopaedic injuries, including those with spinal cord injuries and polytrauma, with your own clinical caseload
* Lead on the development of junior colleagues within this specialist field
* Balance clinical and non-clinical duties with good prioritisation, organisational and time management skills
* Use advanced, evidence-based assessment skills to identify appropriate patients and formulate, implement and evaluate individualised rehabilitation plans, some of which are specialist in nature
* Communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and in discussions with patients, carers, JPUH colleagues and community partners
* Lead on team meetings, in-service development ideas, training and supervision of students, therapy assistant practitioners and junior colleagues
* Engage with formal appraisal documentation as part of professional practice
Qualifications and requirements
* HCPC registered occupational therapist
* Previous experience working within orthopaedics
* Positive, proactive clinician with flexible approach and ability to work across the service
About the team and organisation
We are an innovative, integrated orthopaedic therapy team with an established Enhanced Recovery Programme. Our team has contributed to improvements in hip fracture metrics and has presented at RCOT conferences; we are developing enhanced OT-led clinics for frail patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery. The Trust supports service development, provides regular one-to-one supervision, and offers time and funding for research, innovation and continuing professional development.
