An exciting opportunity has arisen for General PracticeAssistants to join our new PCN Complex Wound Service. Working as part of aspecialist team, you will provide high-quality wound care to patients acrossNorth Shropshire. This role is ideal for GPAs looking to develop specialistskills in wound management whilst working in a supportive, multi-disciplinaryenvironment.


Main duties of the job

Clinical Care:

* Perform wound dressings and basic wound care following agreed protocols
* Assist with wound assessments, taking measurements and photographs
* Apply compression bandaging and remove sutures/clips
* Maintain accurate patient records on EMIS system
* Welcome patients and ensure their comfort during procedures
* Provide basic wound care advice and education
* Build therapeutic relationships with regular wound care patients
* Support patient dignity and mobility as required

Administrative Tasks:

* Book follow-up appointments and coordinate patient recalls
* Maintain clinic rooms and ensure equipment cleanliness
* Order and manage wound care stock
* Input data for service monitoring and audits
* Work with nurses and healthcare assistants in the specialist wound care team
* Participate in team meetings and training sessions
* Cover colleague absences and mentor new team members
* Contribute to service improvement initiatives

Working Pattern:

The role requires flexibility to cover enhanced hours on a rota basis:

* Monday-Friday day shifts with some 6:30pm-8:30pm sessions
* Saturday mornings 8:00am-1:00pm (1 in 4)

The role focuses on providing high-quality wound care to patients whilst developing specialist skills in a supportive, multi-disciplinary environment.

We are an integrated community-based team delivering a range of additional services such as extended hours appointments, paramedic home visiting and dietitian lead clinics to name just a few. By working together, we can proactively offer more effective and efficient services that meet our patient needs.


Job responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Duties

* Perform wound dressings and basic wound care under agreed protocols
* Assist with wound assessments and documentation
* Take and record wound measurements and photographs
* Apply compression bandaging following training and competency assessment
* Remove sutures and clips post-operatively
* Maintain accurate patient records on EMIS
* Ensure correct stock levels of wound care products
* Support patients during wound care procedures
* Welcome patients and ensure their comfort during procedures
* Provide basic wound care advice and education
* Support patient dignity and privacy at all times
* Identify and escalate any concerns to senior team members
* Build therapeutic relationships with regular wound care patients
* Assist patients with mobility as required

Administrative

* Book follow-up appointments and coordinate patient recalls
* Maintain clinic rooms and ensure equipment cleanliness
* Order and rotate wound care stock
* Input data for service monitoring and audits
* Support smooth running of daily clinics

Team Working

* Work collaboratively with nurses and healthcare assistants
* Participate in team meetings and training sessions
* Contribute to service improvement initiatives
* Mentor new team members once competent

PERSON SPECIFICATION

* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
* Minimum 1 year experience in healthcare setting
* Basic wound care experience
* Good IT skills including experience with clinical systems
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Flexible approach to working hours
* Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle
* EMIS clinical system experience
* Phlebotomy and ECG competencies
* Previous experience in primary care
* Wound care training or certification
* Experience working with elderly patients
* Understanding of infection control principles

Qualifications

* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
* Minimum 1 year experience in healthcare setting
* Basic wound care experience
* EMIS clinical system experience
* Phlebotomy and ECG competencies
* Previous experience in primary care
* Wound care training or certification
* Experience working with elderly patients
* Understanding of infection control principles
