Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (M&E, Residential Projects) Overview We’re seeking a confident and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to our M&E design team. This role demands a blend of technical rigor and creative problem-solving, as you'll deliver mechanical building services across a variety of residential project types. From concept through completion, you’ll embody precision, innovation, and a client-focused mindset. Salary * £55,000 – £60,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. Core Responsibilities * Lead the design and development of mechanical systems—such as HVAC, domestic water services, plumbing, and public health—for residential projects spanning from smaller builds to large-scale developments. * Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate M&E systems efficiently into designs. * Prepare and issue design documentation—schematics, calculations, specifications, layout plans, material schedules, and performance assessments—in accordance with relevant standards and codes. * Participate in project kick-offs and client meetings to align on design requirements and ensure deliverables meet expectations. * Conduct technical reviews and quality control checks across design packages to ensure accuracy, compliance, and best practices. * Liaise with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to support installation and handover processes. * Stay informed about new technologies, materials, and sustainability trends in M&E engineering, and propose opportunities for system enhancements or efficiency gains. Key Requirements * Proven experience designing mechanical services for residential projects—preferably within both low- and high-rise contexts. * Solid understanding of UK standards, building regulations, and best practices for HVAC, plumbing, water services, and energy-efficient system design. * Proficiency in engineering software, such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar drawing and modeling tools. * Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—enabling clear collaboration with internal teams and external clients. * High level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. * Self-motivated, with the confidence to make design decisions and take full ownership from initial concepts through to project delivery. Nice-to-Have (but not mandatory) * Chartered or working toward chartership (e.g., CEng, IMechE). * Familiarity with sustainability strategies (e.g., passive design, low-carbon systems, MEP energy simulations). * Background in coordinating or supervising installations—whether site-based or remotely. Why This Role Is Exciting * Be at the forefront of delivering essential mechanical services for diverse residential developments, helping shape spaces where people live and thrive. * The chance to work across a range of project sizes and types—from bespoke homes to large housing schemes. * A supportive and collaborative environment where your ideas can influence how we design and build. * Competitive compensation in the mid-£50k to £60k range, with opportunities for professional growth and continued learning
