Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator

The closing date is 03 September 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the role of a Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator Band 7 at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust within Biochemistry POCT department, part time 15 hours per week. This post is across Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals. These 15 hours can be worked flexibly between Monday - Friday. You will work collaboratively with the other POCT Coordinators in the team.

As a POCT Coordinator you will help the POCT manager run the team, including managing the Associate Practitioners in the team. Your main focus will be on training and quality of POCT devices for the trust. Also, as a department, we are working towards UKAS Accreditation, therefore a knowledge of UKAS standards would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

* Responsible as one of the leads for POCT
* Manages and coordinates the day to day activities of the team
* Leads on service improvement
* Responsible for standard and quality of results
* Provides specialist advice to clinicians
* Provides specialist service e.g. training, advanced trouble shooting, problem solving for specialist requirement.
* To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 day per week service.
* The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals.
* Maintain and promote professional image of the pathology

Person Specification


Education

* HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or NMC registration
* Biomedical Science Degree, Nursing degree or equivalent
* Appropriate Post Graduate qualifications e.g. IBMS Higher Specialist diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science, Masters or equivalent or working towards
* Evidence of CPD
* Holding or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management associated with post


Knowledge and Experience

* Highly specialist knowledge and experience across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theory and practice relevant to post
* Extensive practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory or extensive practical experience working in a clinical environment.
* Experience of managing people
* Experience of Pathology IT systems
* Practical experience of Quality Management Systems
* Experience of performing and evaluating Risk Assessments
* European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
* Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
