About the Role
The Teaching Fellow participates in teaching activities in the School of Physics and provides assistance for course assessment, administration and curriculum development. The Fellow will support the teaching of first year physics students, ensuring high quality teaching in laboratory sessions and problem-solving workshops. Knowledge of high school students will be used to enhance the transition of first year students to university. The Fellow will assist in developing resources for high school teachers as part of the graduate certificate in physics for science teachers and professional development offerings from within the School of Physics.
Responsibilities Include
* Teach first year physics courses including lectures, laboratory sessions, online courses, and problem-solving workshops.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of professional development modules and depth studies materials for high school teachers; review and develop materials.
* Assist with creation and revision of course material.
* Maintain teaching materials and resources including lab manuals and Moodle sites.
* Develop and implement new experiments in collaboration with the First Year Director.
* Assist with marking examinations, lab reports, assignments and tests in first year physics.
* Cooperate with the First Year Director and other staff to manage teaching activities in first year physics.
* Identify and manage health and safety risks within the area of responsibility.
* Align with the Code of Conduct and Values and follow health and safety policies.
* Ensure actions do not adversely affect psychosocial or physical health and safety of self or others.
About the Successful Applicant
To be successful you will have:
* Undergraduate degree in Physics or related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience teaching physics with involvement in teaching years 11 and 12.
* Ability to create and modify online material using ICT.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively.
* Understanding of UNSW aims, objectives and values, plus relevant policies and guidelines.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to training.
Role Details
* Salary: $91K - $121K plus 9.5% superannuation and annual leave loading
* Fixed Term – 12 months
* Full-time (35 hours per week)
