Hays Education is recruiting Cover Supervisors to work across a variety of secondary schools in Bristol and the surrounding areas on a flexible temporary basis. As a Hays Cover Supervisor, you’ll work directly with a dedicated recruitment consultant who will support you in finding work that suits your experience, preferences and weekly availability.While the role offers full flexibility, many of our Cover Supervisors go on to build strong relationships with particular schools and are regularly requested back — giving you the best of both worlds: choice and continuity.
Your new role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short‑term absence of the teacher, ensuring students remain on task and engaged with the work set. You will:
1. Manage classroom behaviour confidently
2. Deliver pre‑planned lessons provided by teaching staff
3. Maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment
4. Support students throughout the lesson where appropriate
5. Follow school policies and procedures
This role does not require planning or marking. You will work across a variety of subjects and year groups, with opportunities to align assignments to your strengths or interests wherever possible.
What you'll need to succeed
You do not need Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to apply. However, you must have experience working with young people in any setting, such as:

10. Mentoring or charity roles
The most important qualities are strong behaviour management, confidence, resilience, and the ability to lead a classroom of secondary‑aged students.
