Clinical Support Worker, Theatres

Band 3 Clinical Support Worker,Theatres. Up to 75 hours per week available, Full time and part time

Health Care Assistant, Theatres, Cumberland Infirmary (variable working pattern including weekends).An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our clinical team within our operating theatre complex at the Cumberland Infirmary.We currently have 10 theatres, covering a variety of specialties: Trauma & Orthopaedics, Vascular, Colorectal, Upper GI, Urology, ENT, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics.


Main duties of the job

To support the registered practitioners in the holistic care of patients having surgery under general, regional and spinal anaesthesia.To contribute to the perioperative team as a circulating member of the scrub team to ensure safety of the patient during their operative period, by participating in the provision of sterile equipment, swab, needle and instruments counts, and the five steps to safer surgery.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

* youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* oLevel 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;
* oTheoretical knowledge
* oExperience of a range of care and related procedures
* oClinical observations
* oKnowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation
* oNational Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
* oNumeracy and Literacy Level 2
* oUndertaken relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers
* oNVQ3 in theatre care or equivalent


Knowledge & Experience

* oExperience of working in health or social care.
* oExperience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings
* oWorking knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
* oUnderstanding of the importance of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation.
* oInsight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work.
* oKnowledge of Safeguarding
* oUnderstanding work-related boundaries
* oAwareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality
* oFamiliarity with current NHS and social care policies
