Overview
As an Engine Preparation Engineer you will need to have outstanding customer focus coupled with in depth knowledge of diesel engines. You will carry out pre-delivery inspections on new engines to customer specification using the engine preparation order, combine dealer software, traditional techniques and installation of third-party parts. This role will develop your engineering abilities while working on the Caterpillar Engine Range.
Responsibilities
- Carry out pre-delivery inspections on new engines to customer specification, including engine conversions, removal and dispatch of specialist components, and re-installation of original or replacement parts.
- Complete all health and safety pre-work documentation and liaise with the customer service team to provide the best customer experience.
- Conduct safe, in-depth inspections and engine preparations, proactively identifying improvements to health and safety, facilities and processes, recorded through the Log Incident reporting system.
- Identify required parts, communicate with the service control team and execute the preparation to the highest standards.
- Liaise with the Customer Service Controller to communicate issues and updates on progress.
- Maintain the workshop and work area in a clean and orderly condition, following CAT contamination control guidelines and Branch Star Rating.
What to Expect
- Work within a small workshop team while being responsible for your allotted engines.
- Receive a phone, laptop with dealer diagnostic software, and access to specialist tooling; hand tools are expected to be supplied by you.
- Travel to and from work by your own arrangements.
- Engage with a wide product range and face new challenges regularly.
- Utilise general service manuals and the computerized Service Information System (SIS) from the OEM.
- Apply practical knowledge of tooling, rigging, slinging and jacking procedures.
- Possess or be willing to obtain a forklift licence.
Knowledge
- Deep understanding of general service manuals and the OEM's computerized Service Information System (SIS).
- Practical knowledge of tooling and specialised equipment to carry out pre-delivery inspections.
- Practical knowledge of rigging, slinging and jacking procedures.
- Forklift licence desirable, or desire for training.
Qualifications
- NVQ, City and Guilds or similar qualification in mechanical engineering, or formal apprenticeship training.
- Demonstrable skills and experience working with industrial engines or plant and heavy vehicles.
- Experience as a Workshop Technician, Mechanical Fitter or Diesel Fitter/Mechanic on generators/engines is desirable.
