Clinical and Patient Care Perform spirometry to ARTP (Association for Respiratory Technology & Physiology) standards, ensuring accurate technique, calibration, and recording of results. Undertake a wide range of clinical tasks within scope of competence, including but not limited to: Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation monitoring. Urinalysis and specimen collection. Phlebotomy (venepuncture) and sample preparation for transport.
Height, weight, BMI recording, and lifestyle monitoring. ECG recording where trained and competent. Administer injections such as B12, influenza, pneumonia, and shingles,(subject to training and competence). Assist in wound care, dressings, suture/staple removal, and other treatment room duties.
Provide basic lifestyle advice (e.g., smoking cessation, healthy weight, alcohol reduction, exercise promotion) and signpost to appropriate services. Assist clinicians in health promotion initiatives, NHS Health Checks, and long-term condition management. Prepare and maintain clinical equipment, ensuring proper sterilisation, calibration, and infection prevention control standards are met. Support the management of long-term conditions by carrying out agreed protocols, recalls, and monitoring programmes.
Administrative and Record Keeping Record clinical observations and test results accurately into the patients electronic health record (TPP). Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to practice and PCN protocols for coding and data quality. Assist in the collection of data for QOF, and enhanced services. Ensure the safe use, storage, and stock control of medical supplies and vaccines.
Support clinical audits and contribute to quality improvement activities within the practice. Teamworking and Professional Development Work closely with GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists, and the wider PCN team to ensure joined-up patient care. Attend and contribute to practice clinical meetings, supervision sessions, and training. Maintain competence through ongoing CPD, mandatory training, and skills updates, particularly for spirometry.
Participate in annual appraisal and personal development planning. Provide support and guidance to new or less experienced colleagues where appropriate. Governance and Safety Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and maintain a clean, safe working environment. Follow safeguarding policies for adults and children, escalating concerns as appropriate.
Comply with confidentiality, GDPR, and information governance requirements at all times. Report and record any incidents, near-misses, or risks in line with practice procedures. Contribute to practice resilience by being flexible and adaptable to changing service needs.
