How youll make a difference

As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will provide expert advice and guidance to help ensure that the health, safety and welfare of employees, members of the public and visitors is safeguarded and the council’s statutory duties are upheld and enforced.


What you will be doing
* It will be your responsibility to provide clear and accurate specialist advice on the application of policies and technical principles, promoting awareness and a strong understanding of their importance.
* You will develop solutions and put forward recommendations to resolve any issues, making sure they are successfully implemented and that service regulations and codes of practice are adhered to.
* It will be key for you to ensure the enforcement and compliance of department and council policies, regulations and codes of practice, while meeting all statutory obligations.
* Using your experience and knowledge, you will provide input into service plan procedures and systems of work, proposing changes to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
* As required, you will prepare and present reports on a range of technical issue,s making sure they meet council guidelines.

What we need from you
* It is essential that you hold a NEBOSH Diploma or have an equivalent relevant qualification.
* You must have the appropriate level of membership IOSH (certified) or equivalent, and will be engaged in a relevant programme of CPD and IPD.
* We require you to be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience working within health and safety, providing advice on legislation, regulations and codes of practice, with the ability to write reports, safe working methods and policies.
* You will have experience of working in a complex, multi-site organisation, with direct contact with members of the public and vulnerable service users.
* Given the elements of the role, you need to have the ability to communicate with employees and managers at all levels within the organisation, including the development and delivery of training.
* With significant experience in undertaking accident and incident investigations, you will undertake health and safety audits and be able to evaluate risks.

What you need to know
* This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road and working from home.

Interviews will be held on 12th and 13th May 2026.
