An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the UCLH Theatres and Anaesthesia team as a Clinical Practice Facilitator for Recovery and Day Surgery Unit (DSU) for a 12-month secondment starting 02/06/2025.

Your role will be working as a Clinical Practice Facilitator in Recovery and DSU at working time equivalent.

As Clinical Practice Facilitator, you must have a good knowledge and experience in perioperative practice and an excellent understanding of peri-anaesthesia care.

In order to practice the role, you must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) OR a NMC registered Nurse (with relevant Recovery room experience and/or qualification).

You will be required to function effectively as a part of the theatres education team providing peri-operative learning and development support to staff and students in the department. You must be organised, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of supervising a multi-disciplinary team providing the highest standard of patient care and learner supervision across a varied caseload.

You must be motivated and enthusiastic, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring a welcoming, caring and safe environment, as well as promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC.

Main duties of the job

Support and develop Band 5 and 6 Theatre Practitioners and Band 2 and 3 Theatre Support/Circulating Assistants (TSA/TCA) through facilitation in clinical practice and promotion / implementation of relevant education and development pathways, with focus (but not limited to) the recovery and DSU staff groups

Facilitate acquisition of the necessary skills, knowledge and competency by learners and their mentors in designated areas within the trust

Act as an expert recovery practitioner and assume leadership roles in the clinical area as needed

Support the training and development programme initiated by the Division to ensure staff members achieve their full potential.

Maximise use of clinical and academic resources, implementing best practice in assessment and supervision learners in the clinical setting

Ensure E-rota and electronic patient records are implemented and used to their full potential.

In addition you must have:

Registration with the Health Professions Council as an ODP or a NMC registered Nurse

Extensive experience of providing care in a post-operative environment

A recognised qualification and experience of supporting learners in the perioperative environment.

Demonstrates a good working knowledge and compliance with CQC Standards
