We have an exciting opening for a new public health practitioner. This role initially covers public mental health including suicide prevention and all age mental health and wellbeing. There will also be opportunities to support work on the links between housing, employment and health.
As a public health team, we work closely with other teams across the Council, as well as the NHS, Community and Voluntary sectors, business, education, and partners right across the community.
The successful candidate will join a supportive and welcoming team, wanting to make a real and positive difference to local people’s lives.
We are looking for someone with the skills and experience set out in the attached person specification, including:
* Experience of working in partnership across a range of organisations.
* Experience in the development and delivery of health improvement programmes.
* Great communication skills, written and oral.
* Experience of problem solving, creativity, and influencing stakeholders.
* Relevant qualifications as set out in the specification.
* Understanding of the public health agenda, epidemiological concepts, and the principles of evidence based practice and evaluation.
* A passion for making a difference for and with communities.

Skills

As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the public health agenda and the wider determinants of health.
* Understanding of the health needs of the population and how to ensure programmes are evidenced based to best meet local need.
* Awareness of the commissioning cycle.
* Understanding of the complexities of working with a wide range of commissioners and service providers.
* Knowledge of the main terms and concepts used in epidemiology.
Experience & Qualifications
* Proven experience in the development and delivery of health improvement and/or health protection initiatives.
* Working in partnerships across a range of seniority levels.
* Evaluation of public health initiatives and programmes.
* Partnership working and working with a wide range of agencies, organisations, third sector groups, private.
* Experience in preparing clear and concise reports and presentations.
