Overview
Health Care Support Worker role at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are recruiting full and part time Healthcare Support Workers to join our Out-Patient Team to support the preparation and effective running of our clinics and procedure room.
Responsibilities
* Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare & administration teams, patients, relatives & carers; answer the telephone, take messages, and maintain patient confidentiality, informing senior staff as required.
* Provide a welcoming and reassuring approach to patients, visitors and carers/relatives; identify the patient and ensure correct patient records are available for the area of work.
* Work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team for the benefit of the patient; observe patient condition and report changes promptly and accurately.
* Explain procedures and care to patients; keep patients, visitors and relevant others informed regarding timings and delays with regular updates; keep the team leader informed.
* Assist in Outpatient Department clinical areas, maintaining cleanliness; undertake manual handling of patients and equipment; stand/walk for lengthy periods as required.
* Undertake skills such as venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, urine testing, bladder scanning and other tasks as trained; support registered practitioners and work in enhanced procedure areas.
* Prepare and run Out Patient Clinics/Outpatient procedures, including patient records and environment, ensuring equipment is ready and documentation is processed appropriately.
* Escort/Direct patients or visitors to other departments or areas for treatment, investigations or rehabilitation.
* Maintain infection prevention and control standards; assist with waste disposal and cleanliness of department areas.
* Support in patient care within competencies trained to do so, including chaperoning, moving and handling with dignity and privacy.
* Participate in mandatory training and personal and professional development.
Qualifications
* Essential: Basic literacy and numeracy skills and excellent verbal communication skills.
* Desirable: Previous experience in a relevant healthcare setting; competencies in physiological measurements (height/weight) and related systems; knowledge of aseptic no-touch technique (ANTT).
