The Role

You will support reactive and planned maintenance works, responding to network issues and assisting with repairs to water mains and associated assets. The role requires a strong focus on health and safety, customer service, and effective teamwork within live operational environments.

Here are some of the activities you will be involved in...

1. Carrying out repair and maintenance activities on the water network
2. Assisting with the location and repair of leaks on water mains and service pipes
3. Supporting excavation and reinstatement works where required
4. Installing and maintaining Signing, Lighting and Guarding (SLG) in line with Chapter 8 requirements
5. Operating tools, plant, and equipment safely and responsibly
6. Ensuring sites are maintained in a safe, clean, and compliant condition
7. Completing work records, job information, and photographic evidence accurately
8. Working closely with supervisors, planners, and operational teams to deliver daily work programmes
9. Maintaining a professional and courteous approach when interacting with customers and members of the public
10. Responding to emergency and reactive works as required

We would love to hear from you if...

You have previous experience within water utilities, highways, or civil engineering environments, ideally with exposure to repair and maintenance activities on live networks. You will be practical, reliable, and safety-focused, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team in outdoor environments while maintaining high standards of workmanship and compliance.

You will hold essential qualifications including Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation, a full UK driving licence with towing capability, Cat & Genny training, First Aid certification, Abrasive Wheels training, and Water Hygiene accreditation. A strong understanding of safe working practices and confidence operating within live highway or utility environments is expected.

Additional training in Manual Handling, Deep Excavation or Safe Excavation, Asbestos Awareness, and Face Fit testing would be advantageous, although these are not essential requirements.
