What does work as a Sous Chef look like:
Leadership and Team Management: In the absence of the Head Chef, you will lead and manage the kitchen which involves mentoring junior chefs and providing guidance on how to improve their skills. You may be required to make last minute menu changes or a complaint may be made by a customer therefore it will be your role as Sous Chef to manage these challenges.
Quality and Consistency: You will not be cooking every single dish yourself, however you will be heavily involved in the quality control, therefore you will ensure that dishes meet the kitchen standards in terms of taste, texture and presentation is crucial. As the Sous Chef you will assist and support the Head Chef to oversee how the food is plated and presented. Visual appeal of the dishes is just as important as the taste. You will also regularly taste dishes to ensure the food is to the standard and make adjustments where necessary.
Kitchen Operations and Logistics: You will assist the Head Chef to oversee inventory and ensure that the kitchen has the necessary supplies. You will support the Head Chef in their absence with food orders, checking stock, and minimising waste.
Collaboration: A big part of this role will be to communicate with front of house staff to ensure a smooth running of service, both in the restaurant and large events. This includes coordinating timing for orders, handling special dietary requests and addressing customer feedback quickly.
