Job details
This role is central to the day-to-day success of the business and contributes directly to operational performance and customer outcomes. As Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality and progress of construction projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, regulations, and company standards, working closely with colleagues across the business to ensure high standards of delivery, compliance and continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in an operational environment and enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and making a tangible impact.
What you will do
* Conduct regular inspections and monitor construction projects to ensure adherence to specifications, drawings, and regulations.
* Verify that construction work is carried out in accordance with agreed schedules, quality standards, and best practices.
* Identify and report any discrepancies, defects, or deviations from specifications promptly to the relevant parties for rectification.
* Review and evaluate contractor's workmanship, materials, and construction methods to ensure compliance with project requirements.
* Assist in the resolution of technical issues by providing advice and guidance to contractors, subcontractors, and project teams.
* Liaise with stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, and contractors, to address concerns and provide updates on project progress.
* Prepare accurate and detailed reports documenting site inspections, observations, and recommendations.
* Collaborate with the Company Director to develop and maintain quality assurance procedures and processes.
* Stay updated with relevant legislation, building codes, and industry best practices, and ensure their incorporation into project activities.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of construction practices, methodologies, and safety standards within the organisation.
Who you are
You are an experienced and motivated professional who brings a practical, solutions-focused mindset. You will ideally have:
* Proven experience working as a Clerk of Works or in a similar role within the construction or surveying industry.
* Strong knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and regulations in the UK.
* Excellent understanding of building codes, health and safety guidelines, and quality standards.
* Sound technical expertise and the ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
* Exceptional attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
* Effective communication skills to liaise with various stakeholders at all levels.
* Ability to work independently and make decisions based on professional judgement.
* Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
* Proficient in using digital tools and software for documenting inspections and generating reports.
* Must hold either a MRICS or MICWCI Qualification
* Experience in facades and façade remediation
