Our national Large Loss team provides expert legal services dealing with high‑value and complex technical insurance work. We handle claims reserved at over £150,000, including injuries of the utmost severity and representing over £800 million of client reserves. Typical cases involve Motor, employers' liability, public liability and product liability, including brain, spinal and amputation injuries, chronic pain, FND, and substantial dependency fatality claims.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist partners and manage own caseload of catastrophic and high‑value personal injury cases
* Assist in initial investigations and prepare client reports and internal strategy reports
* Liaise with solicitors, insurers, police, HSE, and witnesses to gather evidence
* Instruct experts as appropriate
* Control case manager diary and action lists
* Attend court hearings and conferences, and JSMs as directed by partner, subject to client approval
* Draft letters, reports, reserve sheets, and action plans as directed
* Assist with the management, supervision, and development of junior team members
* Complete client and firm MI procedures
* Comply with Data Protection, CPR, and rehabilitation protocols
* Keep up to date with legal developments in defendant personal injury work
* Achieve set financial and chargeable targets/KPIs
* Ensure relevant deadlines and quality measures are adhered to
* Comply with Weightmans and client policies and procedures
* Work in accordance with Weightmans' values

Qualifications
* Circa 5 years + PQE solicitor
* Experience managing a defendant personal injury litigation caseload (Motor work preferred, EL/PL also relevant); high‑value Large Loss work is not strictly necessary
* An eye for detail is essential
* Ability to work to deadlines, targets, and under pressure
* Ability to work as part of a team or independently
* Knowledge of CPR procedures and technical ability
