Help for Psychology is a small provider of autism and ADHD assessments within Norfolk and Suffolk. We also carry out assessments on a private basis and are developing a private prescribing service for families who wish to access this.
Position: Non‑Medical Prescriber – Full time
Reports to: Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Main duties
- Initiate ADHD medication, titrate and optimise treatment for children and young people up to 18 years.
- Write prescriptions for controlled drugs and other medications within scope under senior clinical staff supervision.
- Coordinate shared‑care arrangements with local GPs; transfer patients back to GP care once treatment established.
- Carry out annual clinical checks until age 18.
- Deliver medication initiation and titration clinics at The Grange clinic in Old Catton.
- Optionally conduct ADOS assessments for autism and structured observation sessions for ADHD.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of psycho‑education materials and courses for parents and carers.
- Provide clinical supervision to junior staff and act as a professional role model.
Clinical responsibilities (expanded)
- Provide independent prescribing service in accordance with clinical setting and local shared care agreement.
- Perform physical health monitoring, order necessary blood tests or ECGs, and refer to specialists as required.
- Record all patient interactions and interventions in case notes.
- Communicate treatment plans, reviews and referrals to primary care and related professionals via typed letters.
- Liaise with patients’ GP on any matters arising and receive supervision from the consultant.
- Work in line with Help for Psychology Non‑Medical Prescribing protocol.
- Develop and support delivery of non‑pharmacological interventions and psycho‑education groups for parents.
- Advise parents and carers on safe and effective use of medicines.
- Ensure safety and security of FP10 prescription pads in accordance with organisational processes.
- Develop professional links with Adult ADHD service for transition referrals at 18 years.
Leadership and communication
- Coordinate, organise and prioritise own workload.
- Act as a professional and clinical role model.
- Build effective relationships with multidisciplinary team members.
Education and training
- Lead training, education and orientation programmes for team.
- Identify and address specialist education needs for self and others.
- Teach parents and carers about managing child’s condition.
- Develop and monitor public health and health promotion activities.
- Contribute to and participate in clinical research.
- Attend CPD opportunities to stay updated with practice developments.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse or Pharmacist with live NMC or GPHC registration and a recorded prescribing qualification.
- Independent Non‑Medical Prescriber with demonstrable knowledge, skills and extensive experience in prescribing.
- Working knowledge of ADHD medications.
