We have an exciting opportunity within the Business Support Centre’s (BSC) Employment Services and we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join us withing one of our 4 teams listed below;
1. Team 1 - Training administration, DBS administration, advertising administration & recruitment (pre-employment check and payroll support)
2. Team 2 – Employee changes to contract, Enquiry Team, payment of claims
3. Team 3 – Employee matters, attendance management, family leave, self-service team
4. Team 4 - Technical team (organisational management, school conversions and pay awards, payroll support)
Employment Services is a fast paced and varied team providing a service to over 40,000 employee records. We support the authority’s responsibilities in connection with HR policy, employment legislation and payroll throughout each stage of an employee’s employment journey. This ranges from advertising and recruitment, through to training, attendance, changes to terms and conditions/pay awards and ultimately leaving and retiring. The service deals with high volumes of work where accuracy and attention to detail is crucial. We work closely with key partners such as HR, our IT department, Legal Services and other internal BSC teams. The service compromises of around 80 colleagues working flexible across four key teams to deal with peaks in workload.

About the role
Whilst the successful candidates will initially be placed in either team 1 or team 3, we may ask you to work flexibly to deal with changing priorities - depending on your experience and the needs of the service. As an Employment Services Administrator you will be responsible ensuring we meet our deadlines in the production of all payrolls. Your responsibilities will include:
10. Processing information onto our systems with accuracy
11. Working flexibly and as part of a team to support colleagues during busy times
12. Managing your workload to identify the priorities and ensuring they are dealt with accordingly
13. Dealing with customer enquiries
14. Supporting customers on the use of our systems and forms
15. Taking part in training on systems, processes, and legislation
16. Identifying your own learning and development needs and discussing them with your line managers
17. Making suggestion for ways to improve our service and to work more efficiently

Job purpose
Business Support Centre (BSC) is part of the HR and Business Support Functions within the Council’ Strategy and Resources directorate.
The BSC has a number of different teams supporting centralised processes including; payroll and HR employee administration services. (Employment Services)
This role is working in the Employment Services Attendance Management Team which is responsible for payroll and HR administration processes for over 40,000 employee records.
The team use a range of computer programmes and systems to support services which include those working with teams based across the council in a number of different administration roles.
Responsibilities
23. Working with high levels of accuracy for tasks such as checking documents and recording numerical and alphabetical information.
24. Identify problems and areas for improvement and offer solutions.
25. Supporting staff and develop new team members.
26. Use own initiative and judgement where appropriate, providing outcomes and solutions for customers from a range of options.
27. Maintain knowledge of payroll processes, legislation and policies
28. Work on your own, manage your own workload and use your initiative to adhere to time scales and deadlines.
29. Ability to analyse and collate data and use it to produce reports.
30. Understanding of legal business, financial, audit, confidential and operational requirements of the service, and the impact on its day-to-day work.
31. Deal with and resolve payroll specific enquiries received by telephone and email
32. Work flexibly and move within service areas – working at different locations depending on service demand.
