Summary:
The Staff Nurse (RN or LPN) will have knowledge and understanding of substance abuse and mental health illness and the capability to provide treatment consistent with standards of professional care. This position requires the physical ability to perform emergency treatments, such as CPR and assisting patients with routine care. The RN or LPN will conduct medical assessments, intake screening exams, and have the capability to implement physician’s standing orders.
Essential Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Perform pre-admission screenings (telephone and on-site) for patients requesting admission.
2. Maintain patient charts, including nurse’s notes, medication sheets, physician order forms, assessments, and other essential documentation in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner.
3. Perform physical assessments on patients admitted to a Gosnold facility in accordance with standards.
4. Monitor drug and alcohol withdrawal to prevent medical complications and administer medications as per physician orders.
5. Evaluate and document medical problems and report them in a timely manner to the Medical Director or on-call staff physician.
6. Adhere to Universal Precautions for Infection Control and proper disposal of sharps.
7. Maintain a clean and hazard-free nurse’s station, compliant with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
8. Participate in case reviews and in-service training programs.
9. Maintain awareness and working knowledge of all Gosnold procedures relevant to this position.
10. Adhere to the Professional Staff Code of Ethics.
11. Conduct patient education sessions on addiction, health maintenance, and recovery topics.
12. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Experience, and Skills Required:
Education:
* Certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience:
* One year of nursing experience preferred.
* New nursing grads are encouraged to apply — we will provide training!
Skills:
* Effective communication skills in writing and orally.
* Ability to implement physician’s standing orders.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
* Current licensure as an RN or LPN in Massachusetts.
* Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
