Reed Education are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist independent SEMH provision in Barnsley to recruit a passionate and dedicated Teacher with a Science specialism.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher seeking part-time, stable employment, ideal for someone currently working on supply who would welcome two guaranteed days per week while keeping flexibility on other days.
About the School
This specialist provision is a small, nurturing, therapeutic school community that supports pupils aged 7–17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. It provides a calm, purposeful learning environment, prioritising positive relationships, trauma-informed practice, and individualised learning pathways.
The setting offers a broad, tailored curriculum, including GCSEs, Functional Skills, ASDAN, and a strong focus on life skills and independence for young people who may have experienced disrupted education.
With small class sizes and a high staff-to-pupil ratio, teachers have the time and space to deliver highly personalised learning and make a powerful impact.
The Role
We are seeking a skilled SEND Teacher with a Science specialism to deliver:
* Functional Skills Science
* GCSE Science
* Tailored curriculum adaptations for pupils with SEND and SEMH
* Engaging, accessible learning for students with complex needs
You will work closely within a multi-disciplinary, therapeutic-led team that prioritises safety, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful academic progress.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver differentiated Science lessons to KS3/KS4 learners
* Adapt teaching for pupils with SEMH and a range of SEND needs
* Create a safe, structured, relational classroom environment
* Work closely with support staff and therapeutic colleagues
* Contribute to holistic development: academic, emotional, functional and social
* Support behaviour through consistent, trauma-informed approaches
We’re Looking For
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) – Essential
* Strong Science subject knowledge (Functional Skills & GCSE)
* SEND and SEMH teaching experience is essential
* Ability to build trust and positive relationships
* Adaptability, resilience and creativity
* Commitment to enabling young people to thrive academically and personally
