The School utilises a team of technicians to support its workshops, laboratories and research activities and as such, we currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support practical classes in our largest Engineering teaching Laboratory, as well as support our Fluid Dynamics and Solar Research Labs.
The Role:
As Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will have the opportunity to use your practical and theoretical Mechanical Engineering knowledge to support practical classes in our Engineering Teaching Laboratory and take responsibility for the maintenance of specialised equipment, inventories, and resource purchasing to facilitate activities within the laboratory.
Your knowledge and experience of working with electronics, electrics, motors, pumps, valves, pipe fitting, plumbing, data loggers, and general fluid mechanics equipment will be put to good use, as you work with academic staff to provide support to students undertaking practical undergraduate project work, and other technical staff as required, to give the best teaching and student experience possible.
This is not just a practical role, your analytical skills will also serve you well as you provide advice and technical support in liaison with academic supervisors, discuss data analysis and results with students and supervisors, determining appropriate future testing and analysis a chance to pass on valuable problem solving techniques to our students and be a part of supporting the next generation of skilled workers coming into the discipline.

What we will need from you:
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, or equivalent professional experience (emphasis is on practical experience of mechanical engineering).
* Practical and theoretical Mechanical Engineering knowledge with experience of relevant technical equipment.
* Practical experience of working in a Workshop or Research lab environment.
* Knowledge and experience of working with electronics, electrics, motors, pumps, valves, pipe fitting, plumbing, data loggers, and general fluid mechanics equipment.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures, and the safe handling of hazardous solutions and chemicals.
* Experience of working in a busy environment and responding to conflicting demands.

Additional information:
Salary:£37,694 - £46,049 per annum (depending on experience)
