Theatre scrub nurse /ODP with experience is preferred but training can be provided on the job.
We offer mentorship and an appropriate supernumerary phase, followed by supported practice and can offer development and training in other specialities by sending across to Main hospital at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

Theatre scrub/ODP
We are seeking experienced scrub/ODP nurses for our purpose built unit in the leafy surroundings of SBCH, Hengrove. Our current vacancies are in theatre and the pre- and post-operative ward area/recovery.

Perhaps this is near where you live or you want a change of scene from the city centre hospitals? You won't need to work night duty or on-call but you will need to be flexible to work a range of shifts across the week. Shift times include 0730 to 19:00 or 2000, 0800 to 1800 and 0800 to 1700 and work across the trust.
We provide a wide variety of specialties and services. There are two theatres and 2 Endoscopy suites unit. Specialities includes Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Colorectal, Upper GI, Max fax, and Occuloplastic, Gynae cardiology and Pain procedures.
If you have Theatre experience we would love to hear from you, but we are mostly looking for compassionate, dedicated nurses who want to give the very best care to our patients. There are plenty of training opportunities and many new skills to learn.

Person specification


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience of caring for Day Surgery pre and post procedural patients in a variety of settings
* Previous Theatre experience
* Experience of taking charge


Skills and Abilities

* Good basic level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to solve problems and use initiative
* Ability to develop own clinical skills and a willingness to participate in continuing professional development
* Competency in medication administration including IV drug administration or willingness to undergo training
* Ability to take the lead, initiate and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient
* Interpersonal skills – Calm - Supportive - Motivated - Professional
* Willingness to develop teaching skills
* Able to manage difficult situations
* Flexible working practices for 12 hour service
* General good health, Able to work on feet for long periods. Aware that the role can be stressful and emotional at times.
