The Rheumatology service cares for over 5000 patients across 4 hospital sites, with over 2600 patients prescribed biologic therapy.
We are excited to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Specialist Medicine Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
The team provides clinical pharmacy services across several specialties within the Specialist Medicine directorates. In this role, you will be the lead pharmacist for rheumatology services.
As the successful candidate you will support the Biologics Review Clinics to ensure all these patients are regularly reviewed & treatment tailored to their requirements. A good understanding of the high cost drugs process is required as you will be expected to monitor & manage funding applications for these medicines within Rheumatology.
This is a really exciting opportunity for a pharmacist to work closely with rheumatology specialists in a fast moving area of practice to optimise patients’ treatment.
Main duties of the job
1. As the successful candidate, you will work closely with the senior lead pharmacist and wider team to deliver and develop a high-quality, patient-focused pharmacy service. Your responsibilities will include:
2. Supporting prescribing in rheumatology
3. Providing support to the biologics review clinic
4. Managing Homecare services and funding applications for high-cost medicines in rheumatology
5. Monitoring and processing Homecare prescriptions
6. Developing pharmacist clinics in rheumatology
7. Managing & developing a band 7 pharmacist (also 0.5WTE rheumatology)
8. Developing and reviewing medicine pathways
You will also gain valuable experience in:
9. Financial reporting (e.g. biosimilar savings, CIP schemes)
10. Guideline development and review
11. Formulary and interface work
12. We are looking for a self-motivated and organised individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
13. You should be confident working with a wide range of healthcare professionals and comfortable using various IT systems and databases
Essential requirements:
14. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
15. A postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent experiential learning
16. Independent Prescribing Qualification

Education
Essential criteria
17. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
18. Higher degree or diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate experience
19. Undertakes continuing professional development (CPD) and maintains a CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
20. Qualified as an Independent Prescriber
21. Related Post Graduate Qualification
22. Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
SKILLS
Essential criteria
23. Good ability to organise and prioritise work
24. Good clinical practice knowledge including the ability to analyse patient specific information to advise on management of medicines
25. Good ability to use computer systems including Excel, Word & NHS databases e.g. Blueteq®
Desirable criteria
26. Experience of using electronic prescribing systems
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
27. Appropriate post-registration training and experience in hospital Pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
28. Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options for patients
29. Practical Clinical experience with broad knowledge of therapeutics
30. Evidence of effective independent & multidisciplinary team working

31. Experience of drug expenditure reporting Experience of managing funding applications for high cost drugs
32. Knowledge or experience of working with patients prescribed biologics in rheumatology, gastroenterology & dermatology
