Job Description - Duties And Responsibilities
This role supports Data Centre Operations for Proximity Services based at Telehouse Docklands Data Centre. Out of hours, responsibilities include managing Paternoster Square Head Office and 5 Canada Square, ensuring high service standards for infrastructure and processes within the data centre. The Data Centre Engineer provides technical assistance and support to customers, offering 24/7 coverage through a 12-hour shift pattern (days and nights: 07:00 to 19:00 and 19:00 to 07:00).
The engineer will also handle installation of racks, housing, network, and computer equipment, managing and implementing installations including shelves, power strips, rails, cabling, and customer IT equipment. Responsibilities include hardware troubleshooting, component replacement, testing, tracing, and labeling cabling.
Coordinate with global counterparts and third parties on hardware issues and processes. Maintain standards of tidiness, security, asset management, and installation within the data centre.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
* Computer engineering knowledge for optimal workflows.
* Cabling experience and knowledge.
* Experience installing rack mount kits (e.g., HP, CISCO, Dell, Arista, Synergy 1200).
* Hardware maintenance skills, including replacing failed parts.
* Motivated, proactive, and adaptable to process improvements.
* Ability to work under pressure and independently.
* Good communication skills in English.
* Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
* Team-oriented with customer service focus.
* Flexible attitude.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
* ITIL Accreditation.
* Experience with ServiceNow and Xpedite.
