Job overview

Barking Havering and Redbridge University Trust is one of the largest acute trusts serving a large and diverse population.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic band 6 pharmacists to join our friendly team on our rotational development programme. You will be part of a team of pharmacists providing a range of pharmaceutical services in the busy acute hospitals within the Trust.

We are passionate about our approach to service delivery and are keen to ensure the highest standards of care are provided. To this end we are committed to offer successful candidates on-going clinical training, supervision and the opportunity to personally and professionally develop their career and scope of practice in this role.

You will rotate through placements across both sites, which will include Patient services, Clinical Pharmacy service, Medicines information and Technical Services (production)

The pharmacy department is an integral part of the clinical team and overall Trust strategy. Our major sites, King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen’s Hospital in Romford, are in excellent locations less than 30minutes from Central London.

This advert is open to pharmacist trainees registered in August 2025.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for assisting the pharmacy department in providing a comprehensive, patient orientated clinical pharmacy service at ward and department level throughout Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. You will work closely with senior colleagues and clinical technicians to ensure the provision of an integrated and efficient service.

It is expected that you will successfully complete a department approved postgraduate qualification in General Pharmacy Practice equivalent to Certificate Level (60 CATS points).

Although you will be based within the pharmacy department, you will spend a significant portion of their time working in a variety of areas; in accordance with the requirements of the service and the clinical diploma. This work will be under the direction of the pharmacist in charge of the section and where appropriate the postholder will deputise for them in their absence. Personal performance will be assessed through performance review.
These rotational specialties include:
• Clinical Services
• Medicines Information
• Patient Services
• Technical Services

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

Some of the positive changes we’ve made are captured in this film.
