Job Overview

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference in patient care? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Endoscopy Support Worker to join our Decontamination team, based in the Sterile Services department at Scarborough hospital.

The Sterile Services Department provides a vital service decontaminating and reprocessing surgical instruments for use on the wards and departments within the Trust. As a clinical support the department is operational 7 days a week to meet the demands of the hospital.

Successful candidates will require an eagerness and ability to learn along with a good level of fitness. The role is physically demanding, involving lifting and handling medical devices and driving a Luton tail lift van to offsite facilities. Delivery of flexible endoscopes and medical devices requires significant walking and suits someone who is used to being on their feet for long periods. Comprehensive in‑house training will be delivered which successful candidates are expected to complete.

The department is compliant with ISO 13485 Quality Management System. Previous experience working with a quality system or in decontamination is desirable but not essential. Please note: a full clean driving licence is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

* Universal Precautions – wear appropriate PPE to allow safe handling of contaminated equipment.
* Exposure to infectious material and bodily fluids.
* Maintain security of instruments at all times during transportation to and from the clinical area. Scan all sets of instruments and endoscopes in and out of Sterile Services Unit (SSU) and all clinical storage areas.
* Assist in the unwrapping and de‑containerisation of instrument sets in SSU.
* Raise non‑conformance reports where necessary (e.g. on discovery of damaged instrument sets and other medical equipment). Inform supervisors and technicians to action appropriately. Follow Trust policy (e.g. sharps) and Datix system for reporting incidents.
* Develop a good understanding of customer requirements, employing a flexible and proactive approach aligned with the demands of the service.
* Maintain all transport equipment and report any damage or faults on discovery.

Requirements

* Good physical fitness and ability to lift and handle medical devices.
* Full clean driving licence and ability to drive a Luton tail lift van.
* Previous experience with ISO 13485 desirable but not essential.
* Commitment to complete comprehensive in‑house training programme.

Working Hours

The support role is permanent 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 22:00, and 1 in 4 weekends between 08:00 and 16:00, plus bank holidays on a rota.

Our Benefits

* Access to the NHS Pension Scheme, providing generous benefits upon retirement, as well as a lump sum and pension for dependants.
* 27 days holiday rising to 33 days (depending on NHS Trust service).
* A generous relocation package of up to 30% of salary (capped at £18k) to support relocation for hard‑to‑fill positions where relocation is expected.
* A variety of paid and unpaid leave covering emergency and planned leave.
* Confidential advice and support on personal, work, family and relationship issues, 24/7, from our Employee Assistance Programme.
* NHS Car Lease scheme and Cycle to Work scheme.
* An extensive range of learning and development opportunities.
* Discounts on restaurants, getaways, shopping, motoring, cinema and finance from a range of providers.
