Job Purpose
As a Senior Business Analyst in the Digital Experience Team in Information Services, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between business needs and technological solutions, with a particular focus on Information Security. Working across multiple departments and teams, you will gather and analyse business requirements, identify opportunities to strengthen security, and support the University in implementing solutions that protect its people, systems, and intellectual property. Reporting to the Head of Digital Experience, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Information Security Team to lead system discovery, develop a clear understanding of user requirements, conduct gap analyses, complete data mapping activities, and capture business processes to inform solution design and business case documentation for the implementation phase of the Information Security Controls Programme of Work.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Lead engagement with business stakeholders to understand processes, challenges, and information security requirements, building strong working relationships based on open communication and trust.
* Lead the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of business needs through interviews, workshops, and surveys, ensuring outputs meet information security standards and support organisational strategic information security objectives.
* Take responsibility for the mapping and assessment of current business processes and systems, identify gaps and pain points, and use findings from gap analyses to propose optimised processes and improvements enabled by new technologies to embed cyber controls.
* Translate business requirements into clear specifications for both technical and non-technical teams, supporting the design and implementation of cyber security controls and gaining buy in of their delivery with senior stakeholders.
* Produce high‑quality documentation, including business requirements, functional specifications, and supporting materials, to inform business cases and solution design.
* Work in partnership with the Project Manager to support planning, design, implementation, and benefits realisation activities within the Information Security Controls Programme of Work.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills And Experience
Essential Knowledge/Qualifications
- Demonstrated competence to undertake duties at level 8, with equivalent formal training or professional accreditation and experience in similar roles.
- Excellent working knowledge of business analysis tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of data mapping techniques, data quality assurance, and governance principles.
- Exposure to Information Security Controls, Resilience Controls or Compliance.
Desirable
- Familiarity with developing robust business cases and certification in Business Analysis.
- Familiarity with CIS/NIST Controls and ISO 27001 Framework.

Experience
- Practical experience in business analysis, documenting data structures, processes and defining business requirements for business cases.
- Practical experience of stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships throughout the development cycle.
- Experience translating business process information to a conceptualised business case.
- Experience producing analytical reports to track project and programme progress for a senior audience.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of base case development.
- Familiarity with a Higher Education environment.
- Experience in an Agile project management environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 8, £50,253 – £58,225 per annum. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term post for up to 24 months from the agreed start date. Closing date: 27th October 2025, 23:45.
