Systems Engineer

The successful candidate will have a full understanding of the principles of systems engineering, will have prior experience as a Systems Engineer on a major programme involving accepting and integrating deliveries from suppliers. Using their experience in Systems Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with customers and suppliers to execute Systems Engineering activities across the full lifecycle, with specific focus on Model Based Systems Engineering.

Specific duties may include:

Technical and/or team leading of significant portion of engineering activity of assigned programme Defining and leading the engineering life cycle and ensure that all Engineering tasks in the defined scope of work are delivered appropriately.

1. Working with operational stakeholders, technology suppliers and architects to define system of system level requirements
2. Allocation of requirements to lower level services, conducting technical derivation analysis as required
3. Modelling of functional requirements and scenarios inside of MBSE and architectural framework approaches
4. Capturing of non-functional requirements within DOORS
5. Managing compliance assessments at systems of systems, system and lower level systems & services levels
6. Overseeing development of lower level designs corresponding to owned areas of the system
7. Producing detailed engineering artefacts such as:
8. Detailed Designs
9. Failure modes analysis
10. Service Management Designs
11. Designs for onboarding service applications onto virtualized infrastructures
12. Compliance Reports
13. Security, HF and Safety artefacts
14. Capacity and Throughput analysis
15. Delivering milestone technical reviews and the associated work product deliverables
16. Defining architectural solutions comprising multiple underpinning COTS and bespoke designs and driving the competitive selection of these technologies
17. Creation of on-boarding designs
18. Definition of user interfaces
19. Modelling operational, business and system behaviours within architectural views
20. Conducting cost/benefit/technical trade studies

Required Skills:

21. Strong experience with architecture modelling tools (e.g. Sparx Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw Cameo)
22. Strong experience with Architecture Modelling Frameworks and Languages (e.g. TOGAF, MODAF, NAF, SysML, Archimate)
23. Success in working within large-scale, mission critical and complex integration programmes
24. Ability to work with a number of stakeholders and suppliers, working across organizational boundaries as appropriate
25. Experience of developing system behavioural diagrams, modelling interfaces and developing models to encapsulate functional requirements
26. Demonstrable successes within the System Engineering environment
27. Excellent customer facing skills, including being able to ingest large volumes of requirements and information developing clear understanding of customer hot-buttons and needs
28. Demonstrable knowledge and cognisance of adjacent disciplines, including programme management, customer relationship management, supplier management and service management
29. In-depth experience of conducting detailed systems engineering trade solutions to assess options & feasibility, and define optimal solutions
30. Strong knowledge of requirements and user scenario development in both text based and model based approaches
31. Understanding designing / delivering systems in a Virtualised Environment
32. Experience of working with Service Oriented Architectures

Desired Skills:

33. ITIL including Service Management Roles & Processes
34. Knowledge of Air Traffic Management or other safety related systems
35. Demonstrable commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practices
36. Experience of service management, assurance and regulation requirements and how they apply across functional boundaries
37. Willingness to offer fresh, innovative ideas and/or unconventional approaches
38. Ability to deliver clear messages through dialogue, written work and formal presentation

Pay Range:

Pay Range £47,500.00 - £71,557.50

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
